Under a new government plan, immigrants working in one of 38 priority employment areas, including healthcare, finance, and the oil industry, and who intend to stay in Canada, will have the opportunity to have their documents processed on an expedited basis. As reported by Parta.org, the entire citizenship process can now take from six months to a year instead of the previous five to seven years.
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney also stated in an interview with CanWest News Service that highly skilled workers who have legally worked in Canada for more than a year, and students who have graduated from Canadian universities, can count on the expedited procedure.
