Canada introduced important changes to immigration rules for children under parental care
This, according to the ruling cabinet, will allow more immigrants to keep their families together. When newcomers manage to live together upon arrival in the country, they get more opportunities for smooth integration into local society, bring more benefits both to Canada and to themselves, their loved ones and children.
The changes apply to all applications received by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on or after October 24, 2017. Parents wishing to find out whether their children fall under the changed rules can do so using a special website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/aod-tool.asp
To expand assistance to potential immigrants, the government also introduced new temporary rules that allow sponsorship for some children whose parents applied for immigration on or after May 3 of this year.
Applicants for permanent resident status in Canada wishing to sponsor their child under these rules can check their eligibility on the same immigration department website. This is especially important for young people who turned 19, 20 or 21 on May 3, 2017 or on the date the department received the application.
As Russianweek.ca notes, IRCC recommends that parents immediately notify officials of any changes and whether they need to sponsor a child or add a child's data to an existing application.
