How to choose a yoga mat?

Beginners should remember that yoga for beginners is a very dynamic process

The choice of this property depends on the intensity of your practice – the more dynamic it is, the sticker the mat should be. A mat with a high degree of adhesion is less durable because soft latex wears out faster and lasts less than its non-sticky counterpart.

Furthermore, beginners should know that yoga for beginners is a very strenuous process, especially if the practice is not static but dynamic. Therefore, a yoga mat must absorb sweat – this is important to prevent slipping on it. Also, a good mat does not stretch in different directions because it has an internal lavsan framework of threads. Thanks to lavsan, the mat's strength is significantly increased.

When purchasing, it is advisable to look at quality certifications because the materials for the mat must be non-toxic. Another factor in choosing a mat is its shape – it is best to buy simple rectangular mats without rounded edges and decorations.

If the practice is static, the mat should be equal to the person's height plus 5-10 cm; if the yoga exercises are intensive, then the mat should be 20-30 cm longer than your height. The maximum thickness of a yoga mat should be 6 mm. If it is thicker, stability will worsen, and if it is too thin, the floor will be felt too much. For convenience of transport and travel, a 3 mm mat is sufficient.

A new mat should be wiped with a sponge before use because they are all coated with a special anti-stick substance. Yoga mats are stored in a roll. It must never be folded to avoid creases, as the latex material wears out faster at the folds.
