Modern technologies allow you to create a beautiful pond right on your dacha plot
In the minds of many, this term evokes the image of a vast lake where you can swim, fish, and even ride a motorboat. Technically, such a variant is possible, but the cost of its creation and maintenance is so high that such artificial lakes can be seen only in upscale cottage villages (one per village), or in the residences of presidents, monarchs, and oligarchs.
Common types of artificial ponds look completely different, and their sizes allow you to choose a suitable option even for a small dacha garden plot. Several alternative technologies are used to create a pond.
The simplest one consists of covering an excavated pit with a waterproof film and lining its edges with stones. Unfortunately, the film is not sufficiently resistant to mechanical stress, and a breach in its integrity even on a small area will cause the water from the pond to gradually seep into the ground. Repairing the film itself is easy, but it brings a lot of trouble, as it can only be done after draining the pond.
The most reliable and durable are artificial ponds whose base is made of reinforced concrete. However, the distinct geometric shape (rectangle, oval) brings their appearance closer to that of open-air pools, which does not blend well with the aesthetics of the garden.
The most attractive, both from an aesthetic point of view and in terms of ease of pond construction, is a ready-made base – pond container. It is made of plastic or fiberglass, has an irregular shape and several depth levels, which models the structure of natural ponds. In addition, the upper terraces of the containers are suitable for growing aquatic plants. The capacity of the containers can range from several hundred to several thousand liters.
Additional pond equipment includes special vacuums and bioadditives for its cleaning. Naturally, a hose will be needed to fill the pond. You can even install fountains and lighting for them in an artificial pond, but these additions, again, too much distance the pond's appearance from that of its natural counterparts. However, a small artificial waterfall would be quite appropriate.
