To have Ukrainian documents recognized abroad, they must be legalized
Legalization of documents
It implies a number of certain formalities that give documents official status abroad. Its purpose is to have documents recognized by government agencies of other states. In essence, the legalization process is the certification by legal entities of the authenticity of the documents provided. After it is completed, the documents will be valid not only in the country of which the subject is a citizen, but also in foreign territories.
However, sometimes these formalities can be avoided. This refers to the operation of the Convention adopted in The Hague in 1961. According to it, documents are legalized by affixing a special stamp – an apostille. Thus, apostille at tris.ua is a more convenient and simpler option for official certification of documents.
It is worth noting that affixing an apostille does not exclude legalization performed by a consul, and the latter, accordingly, does not cancel the affixing of an apostille. Sometimes documents do not require certification. For example:
The authority requesting the document does not require its certification;
Certification of the document is impossible due to its form, type, or nature.
Often, consular legalization and apostille are impossible for commercial documents – contracts and documents of title, invoices and bills of lading, documents related to foreign economic activity. If legal certification is still necessary, the procedure can be carried out at the premises of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine.
But, in general, in order to be able to officially submit documents to government agencies of a foreign state, legalization is mandatory.
