High-quality installation of PVC windows with your own hands

New plastic windows will keep your home warm and cozy

The importance of high-quality installation of plastic windows cannot be overstated. Each of us knows that a good thing is worthless without proper use. However, if you are confident in your abilities, have good tools and materials in your arsenal, and, of course, want to save more than one ringing coin for the family budget, then feel free to replace old windows with new plastic windows yourself. Following our instructions, this will be quite easy.

Start by measuring the window openings and ordering the PVC windows that suit you. Upon delivery of the new windows, prepare the room for work: cover the floor, furniture, and appliances with protective film, roll up the carpets. Take measurements of the PVC windows and, if they match the desired ones, proceed to dismantle the old windows. Remove the shutters, take out the frames, clean the window opening from remaining debris.

Installation of plastic windows can be done using mounting plates and using construction screws. Both methods are quite often used by professionals and differ little in complexity. In the first case, you will have to drill holes for anchor bolts and fix the plates at the locations of the locking units. The distance from the holes to the corners of the frame should not be less than 150 mm, and the distance between adjacent holes should not exceed 600 mm for colored and 700 mm for white profiles. The holes themselves should be well blown out to avoid moisture and dust getting in. Practically the same manipulations are performed when installing windows using the second method.

New windows are installed in the window openings on temporary wedges. Each side of the frame must correspond to the vertical or horizontal, which is checked with a spirit level. The deviation from the axes should not exceed 1.5 mm per linear meter. In case of discrepancy, the position of the frame is adjusted until the required result is obtained.

One of the most important stages of window installation is their sealing. For this, the joints of the frame and the window opening are filled with polyurethane foam, the seam of which is additionally waterproofed. Proper window insulation ensures good sound insulation, moisture resistance, and heat retention in the room. In addition to polyurethane foam, a silicone strip is also used to seal the joints of the frame, drip cap, and windowsill with the window opening.

The final stage will be the installation of plugs and caps on the technological holes and hinges.

Self-installation of one window may take you about 5 hours. Glazing a balcony will require more time.
