According to new European Union rules, all persons applying for asylum or residence permits in EU countries are required to leave fingerprints with immigration authorities. The fingerprint images are transmitted to the database of the Euroduck computer system, created under the EU Dublin Convention on immigration. The convention stipulates that a refugee must seek asylum in the first country of entry into the single European space. As reported by Rosbalt news agency, in order not to be deported to the first country of stay within the EU, some immigrants deliberately burn the skin of their fingers or remove the top layer of skin with sandpaper or acids.
