Tool for gluing car windows

There are situations when the front or rear car window cracks or simply shatters. There may be several reasons for this:

• Traffic accident. Usually, in any serious collision of a car with another vehicle or a stationary obstacle, body deformation occurs, leading to irreversible mechanical damage to the windows;

• Intentional or accidental harm from the actions of outsiders. A malefactor wishing to take valuables inside the cabin most often breaks the window and commits a theft;

• Force majeure circumstance. Any critical damage to the front or rear car window by a hard object. For example, an icicle falling from a roof onto a parked car.

There are other ways to destroy the windshield of a vehicle, but those listed above are the most common. Regardless of the cause, a complete glass replacement will be needed.

What does a car owner need?

To carry out the work, you will need a tool for gluing car windows – this is a special set consisting of various devices and consumables.

There are entire kits that include devices for cutting old glass or its remnants, a tool for removing sealant residues. Also a set of holders with vacuum cups for installing new glass. Usually the kit includes a special sealant that is necessary for installing the new glass.

What is easier – to do it at a service station or by yourself

As a rule, professional tools for gluing car windows cost a lot, and the average car owner does not buy them for profitability reasons. After all, a person will not change windows on their car several times a month, right? Basically, such sets are in demand among service station workers, where without special tools it is almost impossible to quickly, safely and efficiently remove the old glass and replace it with a new one.

Recently, affordable devices for removing remnants of old glass and sealant at home have become available. They are quite compact and inexpensive. However, it should be noted that this is not about a convenient and reliable professional tool – devices in the low-price segment not only have a shorter service life, but are also not very convenient to work with compared to specialized equipment.

If trouble happens with the windshield, you can proceed in two ways:

• entrust your car to auto repair shop workers;
• do the glass replacement procedure yourself.

Option #1 has undeniable advantages. First, your car will be handled by professionals. Second, specialized equipment and consumables will be used. Third, the auto repair shop guarantees not only high-quality work, but also complete sealing of the joint between the glass and the car body. Fourth, the car owner does not waste time and does not risk turning the glass replacement problem into a more global one – for example, damaging the paintwork or dashboard through careless actions. This can lead to additional costs that exceed the cost of glass replacement at a service station. The only drawback is the rather large amount that will have to be paid for the new glass and the work.

In the case of self-replacement of the windshield, the amount of expenses can be significantly reduced, but this option has its negative aspects:

• not only special tools but also experience in such work is needed;
• extremely precise fulfillment of all requirements and strict adherence to the process stages;
• a huge loss of time.

As practice shows, few ordinary car owners decide to carry out such a complex procedure as installing a windshield in a garage.
