Immigration Paths to Iceland

Those wishing to change their place of residence are ready to go even to Iceland

Those who are attracted by a high standard of living are put off by the northern location of the icy country. And this is in vain, because rumors about the harsh climate are largely an obvious exaggeration: thanks to the warm Gulf Stream current, even in winter the temperature rarely drops below zero. Due to the fact that Iceland is not part of the European Community, economic stability in the country is maintained.

As you can see, so far we count only pluses for the country! So how to get there, even if you have to say goodbye to your homeland? The simplest option for immigration to this country remains asylum.

It would seem that Iceland has no official agreements regarding quotas for political immigrants, but for more than fifty years this country has been accepting refugees. According to experts, Iceland can be called a state with the highest social protection of citizens by European standards.

Many political immigrants are stopped from trying to settle in Iceland only by its remoteness. But getting into the ranks of refugees is not so easy: you need to provide strong evidence that you are in danger in your homeland. Your case will be considered at the highest level, and after some time a decision will be made.

The most advantageous option is when you arrive in the capital of Iceland and apply for asylum there. At least 90% of such immigrant applications are granted. After that, you come under the care of the Red Cross, which will handle your stay in this country: without status, you cannot work at this stage.

The application is considered for several months; if refused, you can reapply. Upon a second rejection, you will be politely asked to leave the country. However, if any misunderstandings arise with documents, you are obliged to be issued a one-year residence permit.

Notably, it can be extended. After three years of this life, you can acquire permanent residence, and after five years, obtain citizenship.
