Probably only representatives of older generations can remember the fairy tales they read in childhood, or professional literary scholars can name a few of the fairy tales they read by profession. But folk tales have long carried history, culture and national characteristics in different periods of time. They can tell how the world was perceived and what worried our ancestors most in moments of prosperity, decline or nation-building.
Professional ethnographers, studying the history of a people, tried to pay special attention to the features of national folklore and record its fairy tales as accurately as possible in all variants and in all historical eras. For example, in ancient Russia there were mighty heroes such as Ilya Muromets and Alyosha Popovich, who defended their people from the yoke of foreign invaders.
The fairy tale originated during the Mongol-Tatar invasion. Later, when the common people survived in the harsh conditions of cruel monarchs, Ivanushka the Fool and Emelya appeared, who, pretending to be stupid and simple-minded, actually possessed true folk ingenuity, wisdom and kindness. In Ukrainian history, there were also many difficult stages, and the folk epic gave birth to the generous hero Katyhoroshko and the resourceful sister fox.
Much later, author's fairy tales appeared, and their creators, such as A.S. Pushkin, the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, became professional storytellers. Some of the tales were based on folk creativity, but as a rule, they all have a cheerful narrative mood and an invariably happy ending.
Many computer games, especially for girls, are based on kind, beautiful fairy tales and have the genres of quest or dress-up games. The wonderful Rapunzel games, based on the eponymous Brothers Grimm fairy tale, are the adventures of a young girl with fantastically long hair, imprisoned in an impregnable tower. In this game, all fans of stories about beautiful princesses can have a good time and share the adventures of the long-haired beauty.
