The American dream continues to attract Ukrainians
For the last drawing, the results of which are still unknown, 1.7% of Ukraine's population submitted relevant applications. It is worth noting that from post-Soviet countries, Uzbeks also actively participate in the lottery. But Russians are much more passive than their former fellow citizens of the Union or less lucky. They received only 2.4 thousand immigration visas.
Ukrainian sociologists claim that about a third of the country's young population is seriously determined to leave their homeland forever. The exact number of those who have left is unknown to anyone: the majority of workers abroad are illegal, and how many of them are currently living in foreign lands is unknown. According to the World Bank, Ukraine ranks fifth in migration, and over 6 million Ukrainians live abroad.
Experts explain the activity of Ukrainian citizens to leave for permanent residence by two reasons: the general growth of migration processes in the world and dissatisfaction with the standard of living at home. There is no talk of any new wave of emigration: the increase is within the statistical margin of error – about 2%. But the fact that almost half of the country wants to go somewhere, and the young, educated generation does not associate themselves with Ukraine, is alarming. In addition, Novye Izvestia notes, comparing Ukrainian migration to Europe and America, experts say that the United States is more attractive for young people than Old Europe.
