The survey of airport service quality worldwide was conducted by polling nearly 8 million passengers over the course of a year. A total of more than 170 airports were mentioned. Hong Kong was recognized as the world's best airport based on the survey. Second place was shared by Singapore and Seoul Incheon. The top ten also included Munich, Kuala Lumpur, Zurich, Amsterdam, Vancouver, Osaka Kansai, and Madrid. The latter, thanks to the construction of a new modern terminal, jumped from 22nd to 10th place.
Seoul also won in the categories 'Best Transit Airport', 'Terminal Cleanliness', 'Toilet Cleanliness'; Hong Kong in 'Best Cafes and Restaurants' and 'Security Clearance'; Singapore in 'Best Duty Free Shops' and 'Airport Entertainment'. Zurich was best in immigration clearance, Abu Dhabi in baggage handling and delivery, and Auckland in staff friendliness.
Regional winners besides Hong Kong and Prague were: Cape Town in Africa, Munich in Europe, Sydney in the Pacific region, Dubai in the Middle East, Vancouver in North America, Buenos Aires in South America, and Madrid in Southern Europe.
