The 'European Pact on Immigration and Asylum' is not a legally binding document. According to RIA Novosti, it enshrines a number of political agreements of the EU states, in particular, supporting the attraction of highly qualified specialists from third countries, combating illegal immigration, strengthening border control measures and coordinating asylum policies.
Last year, 220,000 people applied for asylum in EU states.
