750,000 EU citizens applied for permanent residency in the UK
Documents confirming settled status will allow their holders to work and receive social benefits in the UK after the country leaves the European Union. As the Home Office notes, EU nationals can obtain it regardless of whether London manages to reach additional agreements on Brexit.
According to RFI, EU citizens have the right to apply for settled status until December 31, 2020. After that, they will have to apply for entry and residence permits under the general procedure if European and British authorities fail to reach a different agreement.
According to the UK Home Office, a total of over 3.8 million EU citizens permanently reside in the kingdom.
