Europe will accept 50,000 refugees from Africa and the Middle East
The EU authorities will introduce a "new resettlement program to transport to Europe at least 50,000 people who are in the most vulnerable situation and in need of international protection over the next two years." A budget of 500 million euros has already been allocated for this, which will go to support EU member states that agree to accept refugees, at a rate of 10,000 euros per person. Increased attention should be paid to the resettlement of refugees from Libya, Egypt, Niger, Sudan, Chad and Ethiopia.
As RFI notes, the new course was outlined simultaneously with the expiration of the program for the resettlement of asylum seekers from Italy and Greece. Over two years, this program allowed the resettlement of 29,000 people from the two Mediterranean countries that receive the most refugees. Although the program's goals mentioned 160,000 people, some EU countries refused to accept refugees under the allocated quotas.
