Energy by the Rules: How to Choose a Laptop Power Supply

A properly selected adapter will extend the life of your computer

Form Factor

If you have the broken laptop power supply at hand, look at the factory specifications in the Output line. If lost, refer to the laptop's factory marking in the Input line. Pay attention to the form factor, outer and inner diameter of connectors in millimeters. The parameters are individual and must match the model.

Voltage, Power, Current

Power is usually not indicated, but it is easy to calculate – just multiply the output voltage and current. Take a new charger with a margin of 20-30% or more. The higher the power, the less strain and the longer the adapter lasts.

The voltage must match the original:

Input – refers to the mains supply. Laptops work stably with adapters marked INPUT 110-240 V.

Output – determines the voltage supplied to the laptop. Choose parameters according to the model and manufacturer. If there is a sharp mismatch, the device will not turn on or will fail. The optimal OUTPUT value is 15-20 V, with a tolerance of 0.5 V.

The input current must match the factory value, but can be higher. Consumption limits are 1.5-6 A. A laptop power supply with lower values will disrupt stable operation when connected to the mains.

Universal and Original Power Supplies

The adapter is designed and works for long, stable laptop operation. Choosing a replacement is not a time to save money. The manufacturer's original is an expensive option with significant advantages. It fits perfectly and can be safely ordered, for example, from the specialized website www.blackpink.com.ua, without doubting the quality of assembly and materials. Some models are interchangeable, compatible, and match in parameters and connector type – they can be used as an alternative.

Inexpensive universal chargers work with different devices, are compatible with 220 V mains and car cigarette lighters. But there are risks: in new laptops, the recognition and blocking system for foreign devices may activate, and in older models, no one can guarantee normal battery charging.

Also pay attention to safety. Quality power adapters are protected against overloads, high voltage, short circuits, and overheating.
