But is it really that important? What is much more interesting is that in the United States, Halloween is still celebrated most riotously. The words 'mass' or 'wide' are not quite appropriate here – this is also typical of, say, Germany. But such generosity of spirit and the vanishing practicality and rationality are found only here. Maybe they had Slavs among their ancestors, and once a year their temperament is reborn in their descendants?
Be that as it may, Americans spend insane amounts of money, and on everything at once: 'otherworldly' decorations for homes, treats for trick-or-treating children... And the Halloween costumes make you doubt the reality of what is happening. Moreover, they are intended not only and not so much for 'home viewing' – people wear them to street carnivals. And neither nationality nor skin color matters anymore – what geographical boundaries can we talk about when worlds meet on this day?
And yet, it would seem such a serious mystical event... But only in Mexico do they remember it, whose Day of the Dead took only the name and date from the Irish holiday. Those who were once the proud Maya people go to the cemeteries on this day, light candles on the graves of their ancestors and commune with their spirits – undoubtedly friendly ones. After which they eat. So if you want to try a marzipan coffin or a bagel shaped like a funeral wreath – this is the place for you. And if you are lucky enough to find a skull in the pie, luck will become your constant companion for the entire coming year. Literally from the next day – for example, you will extremely enjoy the almost carnival processions here.
In other countries, everyone has fun as they can, the main thing is that all this cheerful horror brings pleasure. Although national or even regional flavor still shows through. For example, in France, in Challans, the most relevant will be a witch costume, and not even on the 31st, but on October 25th. So many were burned here in their time that now, on the contrary, they paint everyone willing as ghostly sorceresses. In Germany, besides the usual festivities, you can see the appropriately decorated Frankenstein Castle. And there is room for everyone – after all, the festive events here last two weeks! And in Canada, a person who goes out without makeup and costume, even just to the supermarket, causes surprise.
