Galvanizing – successful fight against corrosion

The management of such companies often has an urgent need to carry out effective measures against corrosion. In particular, thermal diffusion galvanizing is one of the most effective anti-corrosion measures. After all, zinc currently has no special competitors in the field of corrosion protection, as it is very resistant to its effects and at the same time has a relatively low cost.

The procedure of thermal diffusion galvanizing takes several hours. First, the metal blanks are cleaned by degreasing, washing, drying, and so on. Then they are placed in special containers, inside which a temperature of about 350-420 °C is maintained.

In addition to heat treatment, the metal products are also subjected to rotation there. They are coated with a zinc-containing layer that exactly follows every contour of the parts being protected. It is important that such a coating is uniform in thickness, making it possible to galvanize even metal products with threads and complex shapes.

Moreover, such a coating is hard and wear-resistant. These qualities are due to its content of Zn-Fe intermetallic compounds. As a result, the zinc-containing outer layer has good resistance to abrasive wear. This coating is often used on metal products that are frequently assembled and disassembled. They are used in public utilities, the oil and gas industry, and mechanical engineering. Modern hardware fasteners are also coated similarly. Therefore, their threads and everything else are resistant to oxidation.

Another effective method of anti-corrosion coating is hot-dip galvanizing of metal structures. This method of protecting iron-containing metals from corrosion is relatively inexpensive but at the same time technologically advanced. It is widely used in metallurgy.

The process of applying a protective layer to metal products is carried out by immersing them in molten zinc. This is how various metal structures are coated with zinc protection. Some of them are used in the extraction and processing of gas and oil. Others are used in construction, and still others in the construction of pedestrian, railway and other bridges, floodlight poles, masts, various types of supports, and so on.
