How does a one-and-a-half brick differ from a standard brick? Only in size?

For example, let's compare the technical characteristics of single and one-and-a-half silicate bricks. We remind you that silicate brick is not ceramic; it is made from a mixture of sand and lime in a 9:1 ratio. And it is produced not by firing, but using semi-dry vibrocompression technology.

So, all characteristics in order: The strength grade of a one-and-a-half brick is M-200 (single brick also M-200). Frost resistance – 25 freeze-thaw cycles (single brick – 35). Thermal conductivity – from 0.66 to 0.7 W/m*C (same as single brick). Weight – 4 kg (3.2 kg) for hollow or 4.9 kg (3.5 kg) for solid. Voidness – from 13% to 45%. Vapor permeability – 0.11 mg/(m*h*Pa) (same as single brick). Water absorption coefficient – up to 16% (single brick – 12%). Fire resistance – 550 degrees (550 degrees).

As you can see, there are no significant differences. This is because it has a larger area in the masonry, and the holes in its structure also occupy a larger area. The more voids in the material, the lower its frost resistance.

By the way, did you notice the wide range in voidness indicators? This is explained very simply – silicate brick can be hollow or solid. For a hollow product, the voidness degree reaches 45% due to large round or square holes, while for a solid product it ranges from 13% to 18% due to micropores.

The thermal conductivity coefficient also differs depending on whether the brick is solid or hollow. For hollow material, thermal conductivity is 0.66 W/m*C, for solid – 0.7 W/m*C.
