16 thousand foreign citizens have a business license for practicing a specific trade.
Approximately 45% of foreigners living in the Czech Republic are citizens of European Union member states. These are primarily Slovaks (160 thousand), Poles (25 thousand), and Bulgarians (12 thousand). Among non-EU countries, Ukrainians (127 thousand), Vietnamese (58 thousand), and Russians (37 thousand) are the leaders.
The Czech Republic welcomes the arrival of specialists with higher education – doctors, technicians, programmers, who can easily find work. However, the number of such foreign specialists in the Czech Republic is small – around 20 thousand. According to experts, the stay of unskilled workers in the country could become problematic: without knowledge of the language and proper qualifications, they may face obstacles in the Czech labor market.
It is worth recalling that some analysts studying migration issues consider every seventh resident of Ukraine a labor migrant. Thus, up to 6.5 million of our compatriots, the most able-bodied ones, may be working abroad. Nearly half a million of them work in Italy (mostly from western regions of the country), slightly fewer in Poland and the USA, a quarter million in Spain, just under 100 thousand in Israel, Greece, Portugal, Great Britain, and the Netherlands.
