Ukrainians most often applied for asylum – 435 people. They were followed by citizens of Armenia and Georgia – 129 applications each, which is twice as many as in 2016. Russian citizens ranked eighth in the number of applications – 57 submitted applications.
As reported by Vinegret.cz, during the whole of 2017, 29 foreigners received asylum in the Czech Republic, and the Ministry of the Interior granted "subsidiary protection" (asylum for a fixed period) to 118 applicants. In 632 cases, applicants were refused, and the consideration of another 727 cases was suspended.
By the end of last year, 881 asylum applications remained untouched on the desks of department employees.
