According to Radio Prague, this obligation was established by a new law for foreigners and refugees, which was signed by the country's president Václav Klaus at the end of last year. If the article proposed by the Ministry of Education is approved by the government, the new training system could be introduced as early as the next school year.
The difficulty level of the exam was set so that a foreigner can communicate in Czech in any life situation. Such knowledge could be acquired by a foreigner in an average of 125 hours of study. A retake for those interested would cost them 15 crowns. It is expected that over the next two years, 30,000 foreigners could take the exam, meaning that 45 million crowns would be transferred from the state budget for this process.
The Ministry of Education is currently developing a list of language schools and other institutions for teaching Czech. There will be at least one such school in each region. In addition, ministry specialists are working on the methodology for conducting the exam.
Those interested will be able to find all the information on special web pages on the Internet, which the Ministry of Education will open by the end of June. The information system will include a free telephone line and brochures. A ministry campaign, for which 1.6 million crowns will be allocated, is to inform about this system.
