The desire to hide from the idle curiosity of strangers is noticeable already at the entrance. In principle, there is no entrance in the usual sense. There is a telephone booth that you might walk past without noticing, but 'insiders' do not pass it by and often stop in for a drink or two. For insiders, all conditions are created; insiders can even bring their own – for example, just to eat a hot dog bought nearby in a favorable atmosphere.
However, this does not mean that if you come to PDT without your own hot dog, you will not be welcome. Quite the opposite: even the bar counters of PDT are not just a place where visitors are served – it's a place where you immediately feel a special atmosphere of belonging to something special, that you become a member of a club. Everything is harmonious here: the rough brick walls, the toothy stuffed grizzly bear hanging behind the bar, and even some special kind of light.
The drinks served here you probably won't find anywhere else in the world, as they are all the result of the creativity of Jim Meehan, the bar's owner. A huge number of cocktails, most of which you won't even recognize by name, will be a true revelation. At the same time, no matter how intricate the recipe of a cocktail, its base can be unmistakably discerned. And the base can be any spirit, including native Russian vodka.
Vodka, by the way, has only recently been adopted by Jim Meehan, apparently due to the influence of ubiquitous Russian tourists who have already become regulars here – in the holy of holies of the American community of cocktail enthusiasts.
