Three-time world champion and eight-time Australian champion in sports aerobics Lauren Ferry intends to accept Ukrainian citizenship and compete for the Ukrainian national team at all world championships. The athlete motivates her decision by the fact that in Australia she has no great prospects, since sports aerobics as a sport is not widespread and popular, "and coaches in Ukraine are much better."
As reported at a press conference by the president of the Federation of Ukraine for Sports Aerobics and Fitness (FUSAF) Tetyana Pasichna, Lauren Ferry has already been accepted into the federation's ranks and has submitted an application expressing her intention to accept Ukrainian citizenship. "Lauren Ferry will be able to defend Ukraine's honor as part of the national team only after completing the citizenship procedure," the FUSAF president noted. According to her, the athlete had shown interest in the Ukrainian team over the course of two years at various championships, "both during competitions and during celebrations after their conclusion." In addition, Ferry's manager is a native of Ukraine, businessman Oleksiy Smirnov, whose grandparents still live in Donetsk.
According to Tetyana Pasichna, as soon as Lauren obtains Ukrainian citizenship and learns Ukrainian or Russian, she will enroll in the Faculty of Physical Education of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in order to later become a sports aerobics coach. In the near future, she intends to participate as part of the Ukrainian national team at the world championships in the ANAC version of sports aerobics in August in California (USA), as well as in the FISAF version in November in Prague.
