Exhibition of Jan Vermeer of Delft, January 25 – April 25, Vienna. At the Vienna Museum of Art History, an exhibition dedicated to the painting of one of the most enigmatic and famous Dutch artists of the 17th century, Vermeer of Delft (1632–1675), opens. This artist only became famous in the 19th century; during his lifetime he had to pay off creditors with paintings, as confirmed by Balthasar de Monconys, who in 1663 went to see Vermeer's paintings at a baker's. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the painting "The Painter's Studio" ("Allegory of Painting"). Vermeer did not sell this painting to anyone, and even his widow tried to keep it in the house. Subsequently, "The Painter's Studio" gave rise to many interpretations, so the allegories of this painting are being decoded at the Vienna exhibition, using a simple reproduction of the painting's details: here is a recreated map of the Seventeen Provinces, here is a chandelier with a double-headed eagle, here are tapestries and curtains, here is furniture – see it in reality, next to the painting. The lyricism, the philosophy of "quiet life," light, color, the magic of blue and yellow that captivated Théophile Gautier, Marcel Proust, Pissarro – all in Vermeer's painting. The exhibition will also feature works by contemporary artists inspired by the magic of Vermeer's painting. CASA exhibition-fair, January 27-30; Creativ exhibition, January 29-31, Salzburg. After Christmas in Salzburg, it is customary to update the home interior. This is facilitated by two exhibitions at the Exhibition Center dedicated to the latest trends in interior design. The first exhibition, CASA, specializes in construction and renovation issues. This year, the special themes of the exhibition will be "Healthy Sleep," "Parquet," and "Textiles."
As last year, CASA will run parallel to another popular exhibition, Creativ Salzburg, which will feature handmade items for home interiors, glass and ceramic products, stuffed toys, and souvenirs. The World of Frida Kahlo, January 16 – April 18, Brussels. At the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (on Rue Ravenstein), an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) opens in mid-January. The focus will be on Frida Kahlo's self-portraits from a private collection and the Dolores Olmedo Museum. This exhibition is a story about the era and the artist's complex life, filled with turbulent political events and personal suffering associated with the car accident she had to endure at age 18, a story about her family life with artist Diego Rivera, and how her passion for art allowed this woman to overcome pain and misfortune. The exhibition will feature 19 paintings by the artist, including the famous self-portraits from 1944 and 1945, drawings ("On the Bus," "Me with My Nanny"), and numerous photographs of Frida Kahlo from various archives. //www.bozar.be

The Real Van Gogh: The Artist and His Letters, January 23 – April 18, London. A large exhibition dedicated to Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) opens at the end of January at the Royal Academy in London. The focus will be on the great artist's letters, which, due to their fragility, are exhibited extremely rarely. So, the main exhibits will be 35 of the artist's letters, but the themes of the letters will be "illustrated" with 65 paintings and 30 drawings, which will certainly attract a large flow of visitors, especially since such a major monographic exhibition of Van Gogh has not been held in England for forty years. The artist's letters (mainly to his brother Theo) will expand the understanding of the artist's inner world, allow us to judge what concerned him, and the sketches in personal letters will help visually represent the process of creating a painting – from idea-sketch to final realization in paint. The exhibition will feature Van Gogh's canvases such as "Still Life with Onions and Pipe," "Van Gogh's Chair," the 1888 "Self-Portrait," and many other paintings from art museums and private collections. London Contemporary Art Fair, January 13-17. The largest art fair in the UK will be held this year at the London Business Design Centre for the 22nd time. International exhibition Grune Woche, January 15-24, Berlin. The famous Berlin "Green Week" has been held since 1924 and is dedicated to new trends in the development of the food industry, agriculture, horticulture, and landscape design. "Utopias", January 22 – April 11, Berlin. This thematic exhibition, which will open at the Berlin Guggenheim Museum at the end of January, has the subtitle: "From Artistic Brotherhoods to the Bauhaus." The founder of the Bauhaus, Walter Gropius, stated in his 1919 manifesto: "Architects, sculptors and painters, we must all return to the crafts." And he embodied these ideas in the school of architecture and crafts he founded in Weimar. It was here that the concept of the synthesis of plastic arts, crafts and industry found its theoretical and practical application.
Such concepts, which arose with the growing conflict between individual craftsmanship and mass production that kills true art, and the awareness of the separation of art from the vital needs of people, became popular from the beginning of the 19th century. And from the middle of the 19th century, some artistic movements, inspired by the aesthetics of B. Reskin and W. Morris, created workshops ("workshops"). These "brotherhoods" were oriented toward decorativeness and rejected machine production, but soon seemed to dissolve into the international Art Nouveau style.
Visitors to this Berlin exhibition are invited to get acquainted with the utopian ideas of artistic brotherhoods and associations, whose exhibits will include works of the artistic associations "Nazarenes", "Arts and Crafts" by W. Exhibition of Joan Miró, January 23 – May 30, Copenhagen. The famous Arken Museum of Modern Art, located 20 km south of Copenhagen, will soon host an exhibition of the famous Spanish artist Joan Miró (1893-1983). The title of the exhibition is Miró's famous 1959 phrase: "I work like a gardener." Probably the artist meant both the free, spontaneous "growth" of his works and working in a new studio with magnificent lighting. The Danish exhibition will feature works by Joan Miró from the French Maeght Foundation of Visual Arts from the last twenty years of his life – these are the artist's "slow" and "spontaneous" paintings, ceramics, and sculpture. //www.arken.dk

Exhibition of Francisco López, January 13 – March 29, Madrid. On the fourth floor of the Nouvel Building at the Madrid Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, a special space has been set up for a new exhibition - the last sound installation No. 223 by the famous composer Francisco López (born in 1964). A biologist and entomologist by training, López has become a true star of the experimental world underground and has traveled the world with his concerts and installations. Dutch Painting at the Prado, until April 11, Madrid. This exhibition at the Prado in Madrid is dedicated to the publication of a new complete catalog of the museum's own collection of 17th-century Dutch painting. The exhibition presents systematically organized works of Dutch artists in three sections, including those from the museum's storerooms that have not been exhibited since the 1940s. The exhibition opens with works from the collections of Philip IV and Charles II, followed by the Bourbon collection, and ends with an overview of new museum acquisitions.
