6 rules for studio photography

Professional models know how to create images during a photo shoot.

Since childhood, you imagined how great you would look on the covers of glossy magazines – in a chic dress, with hairdo and makeup... And everywhere you went, flashes of cameras would follow you. If you have grown up but still dream of becoming a photo model, here are a few important rules on how to prepare for a shoot in a professional photographer's studio.

The very first and most important rule – do not even think about using the services of an amateur. Be sure to find a professional photographer, look at their work, otherwise after the shoot you may be bitterly disappointed by wasted time and money. Nowadays, on every corner we see stores with a wide range of the most modern digital equipment, cameras, lenses, cameras that almost anyone can buy. DSLR cameras are very common, so one should beware of amateur photographers trying to pass themselves off as skilled masters of photography.

Rule two: start preparing for the shoot a couple of days in advance – go to bed earlier so that your face and eyes look fresh. Do not overdo it with fluids the day before the shoot, and avoid visiting a tanning bed – if you do not want to look older in the photo than you really are.

Rule three: do not run to the gym a week before the shoot and try to lose ten kilograms at once, nor follow a strict diet. You won't have time to fix anything in such a short period anyway, and muscle pain and stiffness will be bad helpers during the photo shoot. A good photographer will hide your flaws and highlight your strengths. You should be in a good mood, because the model's gaze cannot be corrected with graphic editors.

Rule four: come to the shoot without makeup. Cosmetics shine much more in the spotlight, so eye shadow and lip gloss should be applied right in the studio and only in limited amounts. Even if you have absolutely flawless skin, it would not hurt to use the services of a professional makeup artist who knows exactly how to highlight your best features.

To make your expectations from your first photo shoot come true, it is better to bring several sets of clothes with you to decide together with the photographer what you look best in in the pictures. This is your fifth rule, which you should not forget if you want to get quality photos.

And finally, the last, sixth rule: during the photo shoot, try to behave relaxed, play, create images, feel like a real model. Put your whole soul into your photo shoot – then you will get really good pictures.
