Initially, back in the USSR, the excursion along the Golden Ring of Russia from Moscow was conceived as an introductory route for foreign guests from far abroad. One of the leaders in scale and beauty is Sergiyev Posad (until 1991 – Zagorsk) and its Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, spread out at the confluence of two rivers and including in its ensemble more than 50 monuments of ancient architecture from the 15th-19th centuries.
Pereslavl-Zalessky, founded in the distant year 1152, known as the birthplace of Alexander Nevsky, is famous for four still-functioning monasteries and nine ancient churches.
A true treasure of the tourist route is Rostov, an ancient Russian city, memories of which appear in chronicles as early as 862. The Rostov Kremlin was built in the style of simplified defensive structures. However, it was conceived as a paradise on Earth and was supposed to match that description – with a mirror pond and a paradise garden around.
