As a representative of the Jewish Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany) reported, about 13,000 Jews who survived the Holocaust and now live in 22 states of Central and Eastern Europe that are members of the EU, as well as European countries outside the community, will receive €240 per month.
As Deutsche Welle reports, the conference reached such an agreement with the German Finance Ministry on the evening of March 19. According to the organization, the additional sum of payments over the next 10 years will amount to €60 million.
Currently, 5.340 people living outside the European Union receive €178 per month, and 7.580 people in EU countries receive €216 per month. The increase in payments to residents of Eastern European countries, including Ukraine and Russia, is explained by the increased cost of living in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc.
