During the study, three indicators were taken into account: the cost of renting housing, medical insurance (which is mandatory in Switzerland), and taxes. The cost of food was not considered when compiling the ranking, since prices in the stores of large Swiss retail chains are almost identical in different regions of the country.
The comparison showed that the monthly expenses on these items in Geneva for a family with two children amount to 3,954 Swiss francs (€2.5 thousand). In Lausanne, it is 3,611 francs, while in Basel – 3,353 francs, in Bern – 3,245 francs, and in Zurich – 3,224 francs.
According to RIA Novosti, one of the cheapest cities (in 33rd place) is Bellinzona, the capital of the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. Expenses on housing, medical insurance and taxes amounted to 2,463 francs per month here.
