After the end of its service life in December 2003, the last of KLM's first-generation Boeing 747s has now moved to the Aviodrome in Lelystad, where museum visitors can view the giant aircraft both outside and inside. A year ago, KLM sold the aircraft to the National Aviation Park for a symbolic sum of one euro.
For the first time in history, the largest aircraft on the planet made such a journey. The Boeing's tail and wings were removed, brought on a platform to the pier, and loaded onto a special barge, on which the 70-meter fuselage sailed through the canals across the very center of Amsterdam in front of a large gathering of spectators. Overall, the Boeing's route from the airport to Lelystad took four days, the airline's press service reports.
