The five-dollar bill has retained its previous dimensions. It features a portrait of the 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. Purple and gray shades have been added to the traditional green background – there is more purple in the middle of the bill, which gradually transitions to gray towards the edges. On the reverse side of the bill, a large purple number 5 is printed.
As reported by Lenta.ru, the new bill was issued as part of a program to combat counterfeiters who used chemical reagents to remove ink from old five-dollar bills and print counterfeit $100 bills on them.
