What types of lighters exist?
Depending on the type of fuel used, a portable device for producing fire can be gasoline or gas.Gasoline lighters consist of a fuel tank and an ignition device. Ignition occurs due to the friction of a serrated wheel against a flint. The advantages of such lighters are reliability and durability. Among the relative disadvantages are the present gasoline smell and the fact that the device must be regularly refueled by buying fuel separately.
Gas lighters are divided by ignition type into piezo, flint, and electric. In such models, a piezo element is used. Ignition occurs when it is activated, followed by the generation of a spark between the wire and the flame spreader at the end of the upper valve.
Models with an electronic ignition mechanism work on a similar principle. The advantage of piezo is that such a design does not require additional power sources or consumables. Whereas the electronic mechanism requires battery replacement.
A few words about the visual aspect
When classifying lighters, one can consider not only technical aspects but also the device from a design perspective. Notably, manufacturers offer us very inexpensive lighters. These models are typically made of bright colorful plastic and are disposable. But along with budget options, there are also expensive ones.Do not be surprised, but today you can choose a lighter, for example, exclusive, elite. And it should be viewed not as a utilitarian mechanism, but as an image item that is a sign of respectability, a stylish element of a well-thought-out look.
Not just for smoking!
A lighter can be considered a universal device, as the scope of application of this gadget is quite wide and is not limited to smoking. An autonomous source of fire is necessary in everyday life and in production. It is indispensable when you simply need to light a stove or perform some complex technological process. For example, turbo lighters, which are characterized by a high-temperature, directed flame stream, are used not only by smokers but also by chefs, jewelers, and even – as surprising as it may sound – bank robbers. The powerful flame stream can not only simply light a cigarette but also cut through metal.
