The main decoration of our room is, of course, the window opening, whose true purpose everyone knows. How to properly approach window design, given the huge selection of design options while maintaining functionality and harmony in the stylistic design of the entire interior?
Curtains – elegance and charm
The leading role in window design is played, of course, by curtains. They are diverse and complex. The huge selection of color and texture solutions is appealing. A properly chosen combination will preserve the tone and mood of the entire interior.
There are many options for decorating a window with curtains. Curtains can be of various lengths: to the windowsill, below the windowsill, to the floor and pooling on the floor, cafe curtains or 'hourglass' curtains, festoon curtains or tie-up curtains, etc. The classic option is always relevant: a duo of heavy curtains and sheers made of transparent or tulle fabrics will not only ensure privacy but also become a beautiful aesthetic decoration of the window.
It would be unfair not to mention other attributes of interior design without which hanging curtains would be impossible. These are curtain rods, valances, and tiebacks. Each of these elements is an original design solution that gives the window a decorative finish. And if you use your imagination, you can even change the proportions of the window, making it visually taller, narrower, or conversely, wider.
Blinds – simplicity and functionality
Despite the fact that curtains are an integral element of home decor, in terms of functionality and ease of use, blinds have a number of advantages. This is a simpler way to decorate a window. But even here, it's easy for the ordinary person to get confused. The huge variety offered by blind manufacturers can put you in a difficult position. Roller blinds, Roman blinds, French blinds, Venetian blinds – which to prefer? Which mounting method to choose?
It's easier to seek help from a specialist, but first decide what result you want to see. After all, blinds, like curtains, can radically change the appearance of a window and the room as a whole.
The most common horizontal blinds are a wonderful decoration for the window, both on their own and in combination with curtain fabric. Blinds made of wood or bamboo have a rather original look. Natural wood tones will bring warm notes to the interior and will go perfectly with furniture. But they have one drawback – they fade quickly. Bamboo blinds look elegant, do not fade, but are quite expensive, especially if handmade. The most economical option remains paper blinds. They are quickly installed and fit perfectly into the interior.
The favorite remains fabric blinds: a huge selection of colors, patterns and textures allows you to bring a special individuality and chic to the atmosphere of your apartment. Today you can easily purchase fabric roller blinds in Odessa, Kyiv or any other city in Ukraine. The advantage of plastic blinds is their low cost and wide range of color options. Aluminum blinds are still in high demand – cheap, practical, with many color solutions. Vertical blinds are a good option for offices and non-residential premises. For the bedroom and children's room, the optimal option would be roller blinds and pleated blinds.
The choice is yours. The famous Italian designer Enrico Tonnucci said: 'I never tire of repeating: the main thing is, don't give in to fashion and design! Good taste is not cancelled, it is never too late to learn it. Everything else is a matter of personal possibilities. And the worst thing is to overdo it.' When furnishing your home, fantasize, show individuality, think through every detail and your home will become a favorite place to spend time for you, your family and your friends.
