German Embassy issued about 3,500 visas
The German Embassy in Ukraine issued about 3,500 visas for Ukrainians to attend the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. This was reported to journalists by the head of the consular and legal department of the German Embassy, Reinhard Gasenpflug.
According to him, in most cases all applications were considered positively. He noted that a special team of specialists was formed to process documents of football fans. Gasenpflug emphasized that there is no special procedure for issuing such visas. In his words, the main criterion for verifying the authenticity of the purpose of the trip to Germany was the presence of a ticket to one of the matches of the world championship.
Moldova abolished visas for some countries
The Moldovan Parliament adopted in the final reading a law providing for the abolition of the visa regime from January 1, 2007 for citizens of EU member states, as well as the USA, Canada, Switzerland, and Japan.
According to the Moldovan authorities, the cancellation of the visa regime for citizens of these countries will contribute to promoting the image of Moldova, deepening the republic's relations with EU countries and other states, and will make it more attractive for attracting investments and developing cooperation in the economic and social spheres. It is planned that the losses to the Moldovan budget from the abolition of the visa regime for citizens of these countries will be compensated by the inflow of investments and the development of tourism.
