Vietnamese Chronicles

The Exoticism of Vietnam

One of the offered excursions is a visit to the national park in Quang Binh province. Of course, not everyone manages to climb the mountain, only the most persistent, but those who overcome the huge jagged steps are rewarded with a magnificent view of the park.

You can take the excursion not only as part of an organized group, but also tie it to some event – for example, organization of anniversaries. Here you will see rice fields over which curly clouds hang low, mountains framed by exotic trees and shrubs, a bend of dark-sand-colored river waters, and many caves.

It would seem that after such a long war, the country should have a huge number of monuments. But this is far from the case. Although, of course, the Vietnamese have something to show the world community. The most significant of these sites is a cemetery where more than ten thousand soldiers are buried. This place is mainly visited by American tourists to learn about the historic battle in which their country lost more than seven hundred infantrymen. The overall impression of this site is ambiguous. There are coffee plantations, a small museum displaying helicopters from that time, and a huge number of tourists from the USA. It is surprising the attitude of local residents, who are actively engaged in selling American orders, tokens and medals – such a business.

Also, Vietnam has a highly developed system of tunnels, which began to be built in the late fifties. For example, the labyrinths can be over three thousand meters long and have about fourteen entrances. As a rule, these are three-level systems, the depth of which exceeds nine meters. Such labyrinths were used for housing, hospitals, shelters and warehouses. Many excursion programs are aimed at visiting various labyrinths and tunnels built during the war.

Under the program organization of holidays, organized groups can also shoot a Kalashnikov assault rifle or an American rifle there. Moreover, some tunnels have quite decent ceilings about one meter seventy high, while in others you have to move on all fours, although the managers of the company world of holiday services note that the systems have been refurbished and expanded for the convenience of tourists, and each excursion is accompanied by a guide with a flashlight.
