The exoticism of the small town of Luang Prabang, located on the banks of the Mekong River
It is common knowledge that holidays in Vietnam are quite popular among budget tourists, for whom vivid impressions are more important than staying in luxury hotels. Most hotels in Vietnam are modest two-star hotels with simple but quite cozy and well-kept rooms. However, for lovers of luxury, in major cities and tourist centers there are many solid hotels in the three- to five-star category.
Vietnam's coastline stretches for more than three thousand kilometers, creating ideal conditions for beach holidays and diving. By the way, divers often buy tours to Vietnam because they can indulge in their favorite pastime (diving) relatively inexpensively there.
Vietnam owns many large and small islands located quite close to the country's coast. Many of these islands are attractive to tourists and have good infrastructure for recreation. The most famous natural attraction of Vietnam, included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, is Ha Long Bay. It contains about three thousand islands with bizarre rocks, cliffs, and caves. Another natural monument of Vietnam, also recognized by UNESCO, is the beautiful coastal national park Phong Nha-Ke Bang. It contains the largest cave in the world – Son Doong.
Among the architectural monuments of Vietnam, the UNESCO World Heritage list includes the ancient cities of Hue and Hoi An, the Hanoi Citadel and the Ho Dynasty Citadel, as well as the ancient Hindu temple complex of My Son.
Much of interest can be seen in the capital Hanoi. The Temple of Literature (now a museum), founded in 1070, is considered the first university in Southeast Asia. Also interesting is the Museum of Ethnology, dedicated to the culture of the peoples of Vietnam, of which there are more than fifty in this country. Under the open sky at the museum there is an exhibition of vernacular architecture. On Hoan Kiem Lake, performances of the unique Vietnamese water puppet theater are staged. The most popular beach resort in Vietnam is the city of Vung Tau. And visiting the Mekong Delta, one can see floating markets and stilt villages along the coast.
