Three months ago, the bicycle travelers reached Thailand. And here their hearts were unexpectedly won over by the simple local means of transport called the "tuk-tuk". This three-wheeled covered motor scooter – something like a rickshaw with a motor – can be seen on any street in Bangkok.
"It's just wonderful! When you ride a bicycle, you feel closeness to everything: the air, the landscapes, the people," Susie Bemsel said in an interview with the Bangkok Post. "And riding a tuk-tuk is almost the same. You are not sealed off like in a car, and you can enjoy the air, touch passersby, and above all, stop wherever you want. The only difference is that you use the power of the engine instead of your own."
The travelers stated that they decided to return to their native Germany only on a tuk-tuk. First, however, they plan to visit Laos and Cambodia and sail to the shores of Japan. And on the way home, the couple dreams of crossing the expanses of Russia, Central Asia, Turkey, and then Italy on the three-wheeled motor scooter.
The Thai company Expertise Ltd, which produces tuk-tuks, assures that its vehicle can reach speeds of up to 100 km per hour, and a 50-liter fuel tank will allow travelers to cover a thousand kilometers without refueling.
