The rule allowing a passenger to take only one piece of hand luggage into the aircraft cabin will be abolished at several major airports in the country. This became possible because new special baggage scanning equipment will be installed at airports.
Currently, the UK is the only country where there is a restriction on the amount of hand luggage to one bag. At the same time, the rules for carrying liquids in the aircraft cabin will not change. Passengers will still be able to take small amounts of liquids in separate containers, each of which is no more than 100 ml.
Liquids, which include all types of drinks, cosmetics and perfumes, toothpaste, gels, must be packed in a transparent bag with a volume of up to one liter (or 20x20 cm in size). At the request of airport staff, these items must be presented for inspection. Any liquids can also be carried in checked baggage or taken on board if purchased in stores after passing security checks.
Strict restrictions on hand luggage for passengers flying from the UK were introduced after British law enforcement agencies uncovered a terrorist conspiracy on August 10, 2006 to blow up transatlantic airliners. According to intelligence services, the terrorists intended to bring liquid explosives on board the aircraft.
