UK to Tighten Control Over Foreigners

As stated on the eve by the Kingdom's Interior Minister John Reid, as part of the nationwide program to improve identity documents, all foreigners will be photographed, and their data will be stored electronically in a special file and on ID cards.

For those foreigners who intend to enter the UK for work, study or residence for more than six months, British embassies in 169 countries will issue visas with fingerprints and photographs. To this end, it is planned to organize 150 specialized centers worldwide within a year and a half for scanning biometric data.

The new government plans have caused discontent among critics who believe that the implementation of these measures will make the country resemble a set for the reality TV show 'Big Brother', the publication notes.
