Under the new rules, a smoker caught behind the wheel will have to pay a fine of €100. The same amount will have to be paid by those who stop in the wrong place, do not fasten their seat belts, or drive with headphones.
Driving under the influence carries a harsher penalty: the traffic police of San Marino will revoke offenders' licenses for a period of one to six months, reports RIA Novosti. Those who exceed the speed limit by 40 kilometers per hour will also lose their licenses.
San Marino is one of the smallest (only Vatican City and Monaco are smaller) and at the same time the oldest of the modern states in Europe. The country is located in the northeast of the Apennine Peninsula, on the slopes of Mount Titano, and is entirely surrounded by Italian territory.
