The main cathedral of Naples is dedicated to the city's patron saint, St. Januarius. The majestic temple is located a bit away from other attractions, but you must visit it. Closer to the bay are Palazzo Pinatelli, the Church of Giulia dell'Immacolata, the Church of Gesù Nuovo, and the Monastery of Santa Chiara. Divinely beautiful views can be enjoyed from the heights of the Montesanto funicular.
One of the most beautiful places in Naples is the Spanish Quarters (Quartieri Spagnoli). Here every building breathes antiquity, and the streets seem to have come from Renaissance paintings. Through the quarter runs the majestic Via Toledo, leading to the Royal Palace and Piazza del Plebiscito with the Teatro San Carlo. Nearby rises Castel Nuovo – the New Castle, built by Charles of Anjou. And, of course, you cannot miss the magnificent Galleria Umberto I.
On the shore of the bay stands the famous Egg Castle (Castel dell'Uovo). Legend has it that a magical egg is hidden under the castle's foundation, which will make it stand forever. Archaeologists have not yet found an amphora with the egg, but they discovered an ancient polis under Naples. Some artifacts are five thousand years old! All this can be seen by going on a tour of the catacombs or visiting Piazza Bellini: not far from his monument are the unearthed ancient Greek walls. And nearby – cafes, small restaurants... You must try the famous Margherita pizza, born right in Naples. And of course, ice cream: hundreds, thousands of varieties!
