The first Russian Forum in Miami on the Atlantic coast took place 4 years ago. In 2012, at the next Forum, the idea of organizing a Russian Heritage Week in the United States was put forward. The importance of implementing this project was noted not only by representatives of contemporary art, but also by political figures. Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak is confident that close interaction between Russians and Americans in the spheres of culture and education will have a positive effect on shaping Russia's image abroad. Alexander Chepurin, Director of the Department for Work with Compatriots Abroad of the Russian Foreign Ministry, took a similar position at the Forum.
The annual publication 'Russian Art 2012', presented as part of the Forum program and dedicated this year to the 200th anniversary of Fort Ross, contributes to the preservation of Russia's historical and cultural heritage abroad. The book was presented on the first day of the event. Chief editor Alexander Chernavsky gave a speech at the Forum about how Russians in the 19th century made a significant contribution to the development of the culture and daily life of such American peoples as the Aleuts and Indians. He rightly considers 'Russian Art' a worthy continuation of the historical work started in its time by the Russian merchant Baranov.
In 2012, it was exactly 200 years since the founding of the Russian colony in California. The book 'Russian Art 2012' was dedicated to this important historical event. Today, Fort Ross is a cultural center visited by over 100,000 people annually. The publication includes works by contemporary artists working on a positive wave. According to the project developers, the socially positive concept is imbued with the idea of reviving the traditions of Russian classical art, through which strong spiritual foundations of modern Russian culture could be formed. The pages of the publication feature works not only by famous and recognized Russian masters such as Zurab Tsereteli, Sergey Prisekin, Sergey Kuzin, Nikas Safronov, Petr Stronsky, Mikhail Abakumov, but also the works of young talented Russian artists.
The 4th Russian Forum became an arena for discussing issues related to Russia's image abroad. After all, the cultural image of a country is directly linked to the works of its artists. Guests of the 4th Russian Forum in Miami, among whom were Russian Consuls General and representatives of Coordination Councils of Compatriots from around the world, expressed interest in distributing 'Russian Art 2012' through Russian embassies and cultural centers abroad, presenting the best works of Russian painting, sculpture, photography, and graphics at the international level.
Chairman of the organizing committee of 'Russian Art', Igor Kuzin, stated that the works of the best contemporary artists published in 'Russian Art' reflect the aesthetic quest of the Russian spirit, and that this allowed presenting Russia to the US public as a country of great culture with a powerful historical heritage. After the presentation, Alexander Chernavsky handed over the publication 'Russian Art. EXCLUSIVE EDITION' to the personal book collection of the Russian Ambassador to the US.
