A third of Germany's most attractive tourist attractions are located in Bavaria.
The castle of Bavarian King Ludwig II in Füssen (Schloss Neuschwanstein), which had consistently taken first place in such surveys, lost its top spot last year to the amusement park in Rust (Baden-Württemberg, Europa-Park Rust). No wonder that recently, here from 24 German beauties, "Miss Germany" was chosen!
Also in the top ten were the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in 3rd place; the old town of Heidelberg with its ancient castle (Altstadt und Schloss Heidelberg) in 4th place; Berlin's Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) in 5th place. The walled old town of the Bavarian city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Altstadt von Rothenburg ob der Tauber) took 6th place; in 7th place is the area around Lake Constance: Mainau Island, the towns of Lindau, Konstanz, and the fortress in Meersburg (Burg Meersburg).
The Zugspitze mountain (2,962 meters), which is almost proverbial (it is only 38 meters short of the coveted 3,000!), and the picturesque Partnachklamm gorge, located near the Bavarian Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where exactly 80 years ago, from February 6 to 16, 1936, the IV Winter Olympic Games were held, took 8th place. Following it are the remains of the Berlin Wall (Berliner Mauer), which once divided the city into two parts. Finally, in 10th place is the famous "Romantic Road" (Romantische Straße), stretching almost 400 km from Würzburg to Füssen through picturesque Bavarian towns with castles and fortresses.
As noted by "Russkaya Germaniya", out of the 100 most attractive tourist attractions in Germany, about one third (specifically, 33 sites) are located in the state of Bavaria. Besides those mentioned in the top ten, Bavaria also has the mirror-like Lake Königssee (Königssee; 12th place), the Oktoberfest festival (14th place), the stadium that attracts football fans (Allianz Arena, 36th place); the largest park in Europe, the English Garden (Englischer Garten, 59th place).
Last week, Bavaria's Minister of Economics Ilse Aigner reported that in 2015, 34.2 million tourists visited this federal state. According to her, this figure is a record for all federal states.
