The number of working residents of Germany has reached its historical maximum
As reported by "Russkaya Germaniya", such data was provided by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis, located in Wiesbaden. According to experts, compared to the third quarter of the previous year, the total number of working residents of Germany increased by 668 thousand people (plus 1.5%).
The largest increase in employment was recorded in the sphere of public services and service industries, medicine and education: 207 thousand new jobs (plus 1.9%). In the area of corporate services, as well as in trade, transport, and gastronomy, an additional 159 thousand jobs were filled (plus 2.7%). Only in one sector of the German economy – the financial and insurance business – the number of working people decreased slightly (by 20 thousand, minus 1.7%).
Interestingly, according to statisticians, the average working time per worker in the third quarter of 2017 decreased to 345.1, which is 0.3% less than the same period last year. However, this did not prevent the growth of labor productivity in Germany during this period by 1.3%.
The overall increase in employment in Germany was greater than the average over the past five years. It is believed that this positive trend is primarily due to the favorable economic situation in Germany, which has been ongoing for the eighth consecutive year. According to Destatis, employment growth in the country will continue into the next year, 2018.
According to current expert forecasts, the number of working residents of Germany will be at least 44.8 million people. At the same time, German firms and enterprises have a constantly growing need for personnel. Thus, the number of vacant jobs in the third quarter of this year increased by 174 thousand. During this period, there were 842,200 job offers in the old federal states, and another 255,400 in the new states. Thus, there are currently almost 1.1 million vacant jobs in the Federal Republic.
