As reported by Polskie Radio, the Sejm recently adopted the report of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration on the implementation of the norms of the Law "On Acquisition of Real Estate by Foreigners" of March 24, 1920. The Parliamentary Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs positively assessed the report.
Thus, according to the document, in 2016 the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration received a total of 486 requests for permission to purchase private houses, land plots and shares in companies in Poland by foreigners.
It is reported that the department issued a total of 781 administrative decisions (some of which were for the previous year), including 356 positive decisions, of which 252 were related to the acquisition of land plots, 96 for the purchase of residential and commercial premises, and 8 for the acquisition of shares in companies. Only in 35 cases did foreigners receive a refusal.
Real estate in Poland has long been in high demand among Ukrainians. This is explained, in particular, by the geographical proximity of the two countries, the opening of the European "visa-free regime" for Ukrainians, as well as the fact that Poland often issues residence permits to its neighbors. It is expected that this trend will continue in the coming years. Other foreigners are rarely interested in Polish properties, with the exception of expats who come to work in Poland on a long-term basis.
