Among the sights of the city, it is worth highlighting the Church of St. John the Divine, located not far from the forest. It is at this place, according to legend, that he began to write his Revelation. Much attention is paid to ecology on the island, so there are practically no industrial enterprises here, which is actually its main advantage. The air here is really very clean.
While relaxing on the island, it is worth visiting the Monastery of the Virgin Mary of Myrtidiotissa, which was built in the 19th century, and to this day houses an icon of the Virgin Mary. It will be no less interesting to visit Antikythera – a rocky islet located in the Mediterranean Sea. Translated, its name means 'located opposite Kythera'. The island became famous for the 'Antikythera mechanism', which can be considered an analogue of modern computers. This miracle was found at the bottom of the sea in 1902, while its invention dates back several centuries BC.
If we compare vacation in Crete in summer and spending time here, we can confidently say that the atmosphere on this island is more conducive to a quiet family vacation. There is no hustle and bustle typical of large resorts. As a rule, this island is chosen by travelers who prefer rest in a quiet environment.
