Foreign tourists have again set a record for overnight stays in Germany
From January to December 2018, a total of 87.7 million overnight stays by guests from abroad were registered nationwide. As reported by Deutsche Welle, the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced this in a preliminary report on the year's results.
This indicator has been growing for the ninth consecutive year. The current growth rate is five percent. In the previous two years, it was 1.4 percent and 3.6 percent. The total number of overnight stays reached 478 million.
Detailed data on the number of tourists from individual countries for last year will be published later. However, it should be noted that in 2017, the number of overnight stays by guests from Russia in German hotels, according to the German National Tourist Board (DZT), amounted to almost 1.8 million, and the number of guests themselves exceeded 740,000. In 2008-2017, this figure increased by more than a third. The annual turnover from these trips amounted to about 2.1 billion euros.
Among cities, Munich, Berlin, and Düsseldorf are the most popular with guests from Russia. Among federal states, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Baden-Württemberg, not counting Berlin, which also has the status of a federal state and would be in second place on this list.
