Rising fuel prices and the associated increase in hotel service costs are forcing Europeans to look for cheaper vacation spots than recognized European resorts, especially considering that many people are willing to save on everything in everyday life except for leisure.
In this case, Turkey and Egypt have proven to be ideal destinations, reports Travel.ru citing The Guardian. Despite the fact that price increases have also affected these countries, this year Thomas Cook's sales of summer packages to their resorts rose by 15% compared to last year. Demand for winter offers to Egypt increased by 25%, to Turkey by 13%. Thus, in the battle for tourists, they overtook former leaders Spain and Greece.
Egypt is visited by about 9 million foreign guests annually. By 2014, the country plans to bring this figure to 14 million, and the total number of hotel rooms will increase to 240,000.
