The history of the settlement of Truskavets begins from the times when merchants flocked here to the world-famous saltworks; it was because of salt that the health resort got its name – Truskavets, which comes from the Hungarian word for "salt".
The healing properties of the local mineral waters were first studied by the royal court physician Wojciech Oczko, and in 1578 he first described the balneological features of the area. However, as a resort, the settlement began to develop rapidly only starting from the 19th century. It was at that time that oil was found in the region and oil magnates began to invest in it. The father of Truskavets, Rajmund Jarosz, started the electrification of the city and built a railway line that connected the resort with the rest of the world and opened it to numerous guests.
Already in 1933-1939, the Truskavets resort was known throughout Europe; European rulers, presidents, ministers, and emperors came to rest at its villas and sanatoriums, and the city was held up as an example to other resorts. In the literature of that time, Truskavets is considered a level above the now well-known resort of Karlovy Vary in terms of service quality.
