Today, importing vehicles from abroad on one's own is gaining popularity
Rare cars, such as a Cadillac dealer, officially registered in Ukraine, cannot always offer to purchase on site. Then the buyer decides to buy the desired car abroad and bring it into the home country.
Considering the laboriousness of importing vehicles from abroad, buying common cars, such as, for example, mini cooper one or Renault, outside one's own country is an unprofitable procedure.
What 'surprises' await when importing a car from another country?
Troubles can start directly at customs, when the purchased vehicle is simply not allowed across the border. To avoid these problems, the car must be deregistered by the previous owner, as evidenced by a mark in the technical passport. And in case of driving a new car across the border, an invoice (bill of sale) must be on hand. It is worth noting that the biggest problems should be expected by those who want to import a car older than 8 years.
If no problems arose at customs, this does not mean that the import procedure was successful. Next, the car must be registered with the traffic police at the place of residence. For a successful outcome of this final procedure, all necessary payments must be made, namely: duty and excise tax (paid at customs when crossing the border), as well as VAT. If payments are completed, you should contact the customs office at the place of residence with all documents received at the border, where after inspection of the vehicle and a paid certification, you will be issued a certificate-permit for registration with the traffic police.
The actual procedure of registering an imported car with the traffic police is little different from the procedure of registering a 'local' vehicle. Similarly, the registration fee will depend on the year of manufacture of the vehicle, its environmental friendliness, and engine displacement.
In conclusion, I would like to note that today importing used cars from abroad is a very costly and unprofitable procedure. If you are going to import a 'foreign' car, then only a new one.
